How to: Indent a matrix question.

There are a couple of ways to indent a matrix question, what follows is the easiest.

Time: less than 3 minutes. Skill level: All
  1. Go to the survey manager page and edit your survey with the page editor.
  2. Select a row of the matrix to indent and open its toolbar.
  3. Open the Question Editor for the matrix item.
  4. In the question editor set the proof mode on (this forces the page not to return to the editor when we click the “Update” button).
  5. We’re going to indent the right hand side of the matrix, so we add a column which will take up the space (and not leave a weird gap in the background colour).
  6. If you look top right you’ll see (as expected) that the question is now too wide, so we remove the equivalent amount from another column.
  7. Unset proof mode (so when we click the “Update” button the page returns to the page editor).
  8. Click the “Update” button.
  9. The Question Editor has forced the other members of the matrix to align to the one you double clicked.

That’s it!
