How to: Filter your responses by a question's answer(s).

Filter your responses by a question's answer(s):

Time: less than 10 minutes. Skill level: All
  1. Take the short cut to the “Response aggregate” page by clicking on the number of responses displayed for the survey.
  2. We’re not interested in questions that didn’t get answered, so we’ll stop this page displaying them.
  3. This particular survey has a comments box – we can view the individual comments by clicking the link.
  4. From the popup containing the individual comments, it’s possible to view the survey to which each comment belongs simply by clicking the comment you’re interested in.
  5. Similarly: if you return to the main page and click on one of the graph bars, next to a non-text question, you’ll get a popup listing the responses in which the answer appears.
  6. Again, from the popup containing the associated responses, it’s possible to view the survey to which each answer belongs simply by clicking the response you’re interested in.
  7. If you return to the main page, we want to filter the responses shown on the page, by the people who said they would recommend us to a friend. To add an answer to the filter click the answer you want to filter the results by.
  8. Oops! 1 is “no” and 2 is “yes” (see the “Options key” link from the top of the “Response aggregate page”), so we want to remove the “no” from the filter – we do this by re-clicking radio next to the number 1 again.
  9. Now click the radio button by the number 2 ("yes").
  10. And apply this filter to the responses displayed on the “Response aggregate” page.
  11. Now the page is only showing responses that recommend us to friends. What’s interesting is in the question above (which scores us out of 10) we have some low scores, so we will eliminate the responses that scored us 9 out of 10 to enable us to analyse the data further. Click the radio button next to the 9.
  12. Select to reject any responses that contain this answer.
  13. And apply this filter to the responses displayed on the “Response aggregate” page. Note: this filter is applied to your already filtered responses.
  14. To download these (filtered) results, simply click the download link at the top of the page and save the results to your hard disk.
  15. To remove your filter(s), click the filter button at the top of the page.
  16. And remove this filter to the responses displayed on the “Response aggregate” page.

That’s it! Remember that each filter is placed on top of the previous filter, easily allowing you to drill down into your data.
