How to: Force one response per user.

Configure your survey to restrict one response per user; this example shows you how to set up the unique identifier option to restrict one response per invoice number, but it could easily be applied to any unique identifier, e.g. vehicle registration numbers.

Time: less than 5 minutes. Skill level: All
  1. Edit your survey using the page editor (if your survey is active select “Open it anyway” from the popup and skip to step 3).
  2. Click the “Survey Options” tab.
  3. Click the “Show advanced” button.
  4. Select the “Use unique identifier” option – we’re recording responses against a unique ID (we’re using an invoice number, but it could be anything that is unique, e.g. job number, vehicle registration, etc).
  5. Open the "Unique identifier options" popup.
  6. Change the instruction the responder will get to say that we want their invoice number.
  7. Click the “Update” button.
  8. Tick the "Record Unique ID" box - this instructs the survey to record the unique ID (invoice number) against the response, that way you can tell which response belongs to which unique ID.
  9. In this example we’re going to give our responder a chance to change their response after they’ve submitted it. We do this by setting the number of minutes their response will remain editable after they’ve submitted it - if they return to their response within the time limit they will be able to retrieve and resubmit their response. Set the “Resubmit Timeout” to 5 minutes (a value of 0 minutes will disable the resubmit feature).
  10. Click the “Update” button.
  11. Save your survey.

That’s it! To test this feature you must activate your survey – see “How to: Activate your survey (so it will record responses)”.

This particular example used a unique identifier; if this is the option you require then please do not hesitate to contact us as we can be far more specific and are happy to help. For example we could insist on invoice numbers that start with 3 numbers, contain 1 letter and forward slash.
